The Goethe-Institut Boston is seeking a full-time Language Course Officer
The Goethe-Institut is the cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany with a global reach. We promote knowledge of the German language abroad and foster international cultural cooperation. The Goethe-Institut offers German language courses and certificate exams for learners of all proficiency levels.
This exciting communications, student services and database administration opportunity with the Goethe-Institut Boston is ideal for a motivated, independent, detail- and service-oriented individual who is enthusiastic about the German language. Applicants can expect a fast-paced, goal-driven working atmosphere with an intercultural team serving teachers and students of the German language at the Language Department in Boston. The selected candidate will possess a strong set of communication and administrative office skills, including demonstrated mastery of Excel, Word, database usage, student advising and written communication.
- Full time position (100%) = 40 hours/week.
- Start date as soon as possible; contract through 12/31/2022, opportunity for renewal
Responsibilities:
- Communication of information for all course, examination, and language department events to active and prospective students
- Serve as student advisor for active and prospective course and exam students
- Represent the language department of the Goethe-Institut Boston on-site and other venues to disseminate program information to the public
- Coordination with leadership to schedule all in-person language department courses and events taking place at the Goethe-Institut Boston and partner locations
- Processing course enrollments, cancellations, withdrawals, confirmations of participation and all associated backend database management
- Set-up and management of all Goethe-Institut Boston course and examination information and all associated backend database management
- Oversight and, as needed delegation, of all incoming email and phone calls to language department
- Creation and maintenance of database and communications processes documentation
- Data analysis, evaluation, and reporting; document preparation and archiving
- Review of all web and publicly disseminated text re: course offerings
- Liaison with regional coordination office
- Issuing of certificates and course attendances
- Participation in internal and external audits
Requirements:
- Flawless written and spoken English and proven German language mastery at B2 level or beyond
- Demonstrated mastery of all basic/ intermediate functions of Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Demonstrated experience or capacity for quick and seamless training with databases
- Proven experience and interest in cultural competency and equity
- Background as advisor, instructor, or service professional in the industries of education, arts, or other course-based programs; or equivalent experience
- Ability to accommodate evening and weekend work as mutually determined with supervisor
- University degree (BA or higher) or demonstrated professional equivalence
- Special expertise and competence in organization; communications background preferred
- Collaborative team player able to competently manage workflow to meet time-driven goals
